Nov. 16, 2009 – Butler County Rural Electric Cooperative (REC) is reaching out to families in need by distributing energy-efficiency kits to North Iowa Community Action Organization offices in Charles City, Clarksville, New Hampton, and Waverly. Co-op customers who qualify for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are eligible to receive the kits.

The kits contain weatherization items, including foam sealant, weather stripping, window covering, outlet and switch plate gaskets, a refrigerator thermometer, and four CFL bulbs for energy savings.

“Butler County REC members who are already qualified for LIHEAP for the coming heating season should receive their energy-efficiency kits in the mail. Additional members who qualify for LIHEAP in the coming months will receive their kits from their local community action agencies,” says Mandy Grummitt, billing clerk at Butler County REC. “The agencies will distribute the kits on a first-come-first-serve basis while the supply lasts.”

Learn more about LIHEAP at http://www.state.ia.us/government/dhr/caa/.

REC members with concerns about energy usage are encouraged to contact Butler County REC for assistance.

The cooperative offers free energy audits, energy-efficiency rebates, and incentives to help customers use energy wisely and save money on their utility bills. For details, call 888-267-2726 or send an email to butler@butlerrec.coop.
