Supporting locally owned wind generation

By Bob Bauman, CEO, Butler County REC

“For the past several years, many of our members have chosen to support locally-owned wind generation by contributing to our EnergyWise Renewables program.

"In 2009, we saw a dramatic increase in wind generation activity. At the beginning of the year, we had only two wind generators connected to our system. However, as of December 31, we have 10 connected. An additional two members have signed interconnection agreements for generators that will be installed in 2010.

“EnergyWise Renewables contributions are based on 100 kilowatt-hour blocks, with each block costing $1.50 per month. Members can choose the number of blocks they wish to support, and contributions can start and stop anytime. All of the contributions go to support small-scale locally owned wind generation. We do not charge anything for the administration of the program.”
