Basin Electric Power Cooperative Scholarship
Two $1,000 scholarships
Each year, dependents of Butler County REC members are invited to apply for a $1,000 scholarship for tuition at a two-year or four-year college (including vocational and technical schools).
Two scholarships will be awarded -- one will be chosen from Butler County REC and another from within the entire Corn Belt Power Cooperative service territory.
Both scholarships awarded will be based on academic excellence, work experience, and school and community activities.
Deadline to apply for the 2010 scholarships was February 1, 2010. Butler County REC selected Sean Staudt from Dougherty as the recipient of the scholarship. Staudt is completing his first year of study in the Honors Program at the University of Iowa where he is pursuing a degree in chemistry. He is the son of Butler County REC members Paul and Jean Staudt of Dougherty.
The second scholarship was awarded to a student from Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative.
These scholarships are made available by Basin Electric Power Cooperative, a regional power supplier based in Bismarck, ND.
Electrical Technology, Powerline, or Powerline Technology Scholarship
Three $500 scholarships
Corn Belt Power Cooperative, power supplier to Butler County REC is partnering with Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, to offer three $500 scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded annually to individuals who have met the eligibility requirements.
Recipients may be either first- or second-year students at Northwest Iowa Community College in Electrical Technology, Powerline or Powerline Technology.
To be considered applicants must reside in one of the counties served by Butler County REC. Students must maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA.
Deadline to apply: April 1. Submit applications to the Northwest Iowa Community College Foundation.

Wind Energy and Turbine Technology Scholarship
One $500 scholarship
Corn Belt Power Cooperative Scholarship, partnering with Iowa lakes Community College is offering one $500 scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to an individual who has met the eligibility requirements.
Recipients must be enrolled in the Wind Energy and Turbine Technology program; be either first- or second-year students at Iowa Lakes Community College; have a high school grade point average of 2.5; an Iowa resident; and maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
