BUTLER COUNTY RURAL ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE (REC) is a member-owned electric distribution utility providing electrical power and related services to more than 5,000 consumers. Our service territory lies mainly within the Iowa counties of Bremer, Butler, Chickasaw and Floyd. In addition, the Iowa communities of Aplington, Fairbank, Fredericksburg, Readlyn, and Hudson Municipal Electric Utility purchase wholesale power from us.

The cooperative is governed by a board of directors who are elected from among the member-owners of Butler County REC. The board consists of nine co-op members serving three-year terms. Every year at our annual meeting, three of the positions come up for election.

Members serving on the board for 2009 are (pictured above from left) Leland Boyd, Treasurer; Harley Henrichs; Tim Schrage; Duane Rieckenberg, President; Gary Poppe, Vice President; Don Feldman, Secretary; John Klahsen, Assistant Sec'y-Treasurer; Lowell Goodenbour; and Gerald Schmitt.
